“facade” presents 16 photographs taken in Hamburg, Germany, before and after the G20 summit meeting in July 2017. Shop owners in Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel and adjacent streets had erected wooden panels to protect their shop windows from expected riots, or they added panels after the riots as a measure of temporary repair. Many panels were filled with graffiti immediately.
Staying clear of dramatization and judgement, the photographs depict the modified store fronts as architectural and cultural phenomena, seen by a curious observer.
